I took a digital photography class (CMNS1500_01) and this is what my views are for a communication student especially majoring in digital journalism and why I chose this as my wildcard. The above are examples of my work.
I will say digital photography is a key course to take given the important part that visual content plays in today’s media. Digital journalism extends further than the written word, as photography frequently serves as the most influential tool for storytelling.
Digital photography is necessary in modern journalism because of the important part visual content has in media. As stories depend more and more on images to fully catch attention, carefully mastering techniques like lighting, composition, as well as camera settings, they allow journalists to create very high-quality visuals that greatly improve storytelling while adhering to journalistic standards.
In a time during which people’s attention is even briefer, as well as people being exceedingly swamped with multiple things, a truly good picture, can certainly help a story stick out from the entire pack. Digital photography is therefore key to getting people interested and sharing news well. Despite the challenges of learning photography, I’m glad I took this course, as it has equipped me with valuable skills that I apply daily.
